Founded in early 2020 by three partners\u2014Edin V. Guzman, Ryan Derry, and Jeff Powers\u2014the Unionville-based shop has grown into a trusted name for full-service auto, heavy-duty diesel, fleet management, and high-performance custom builds. Their success, Guzman says, comes from something big chain shops often miss: genuine passion and human connection.<\/p>\n

\u201cRyan and his dad had a little shop, but it was so organized\u2014procedures, systems, everything,\u201d Guzman recalled. \u201cIt was totally opposite from what I grew up with. That\u2019s when I fell back in love with mechanics\u2014the building, the performance, the process.\u201d<\/p>\n
Derry\u2019s vision for trucks and performance work quickly became contagious. Together with Powers\u2014who brought not just experience as a business owner, but deep knowledge from running several successful businesses, along with strong financial and strategic expertise\u2014the trio pooled their resources, took over a shop space, and launched Automotive Ingenuity HD just as the COVID-19 pandemic shut the world down.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had just started the business, and then\u2014March 2020\u2014the pandemic hit,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cBut I\u2019m a big faith believer. God puts people in your life for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each partner leaned into his strengths: Derry handling daily shop operations and complex mechanical work, Powers managing finances, compliance, insurance, and legal matters, and Guzman focusing on people, marketing, and community outreach.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat combination, in the middle of a storm,\u201d Guzman said, \u201cwe made it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n Automotive Ingenuity HD quickly gained traction, not only with individual customers but with major fleet clients.<\/p>\n One of the first organizations to take a chance on the young business was Access: Points for Living, a nonprofit providing mental health services.<\/p>\n \u201cThey trusted us with their fleet\u2014trucks, vans, buses\u2014and we never let them down,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cThat relationship is still going strong today.\u201d<\/p>\n From there, the shop expanded its fleet portfolio to include companies such as Frontier and regional contractors who depend on fast, reliable service.<\/p>\n \u201cFor fleet clients, time is money,\u201d Guzman explained. \u201cThey just need the vehicle fixed and back on the road. We\u2019ll pick it up, deliver it, stay late, work weekends\u2014whatever it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n Preventive maintenance is central to that promise.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s better to fix the small things now than wait for a disaster,\u201d he said. \u201cWe do PM sheets, check everything. Customers always say, \u2018Take care of it now\u2014I can\u2019t afford to lose the truck for a week.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Walk into Automotive Ingenuity HD, and customers are often greeted first\u2014not by a mechanic\u2014but by two wagging tails.<\/p>\n \u201cPearl and Trixie are our shop mascots,\u201d Guzman laughed. \u201cPeople bypass us and go straight to the dogs. They bring them treats. They\u2019re like therapy dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n The welcoming atmosphere is intentional. Office manager Marissa, whom Guzman describes as \u201can amazing human,\u201d ensures every customer feels heard and cared for.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019ll walk you through every step, make sure you have a ride, explain what\u2019s happening,\u201d he said. \u201cIf someone feels heard, you\u2019ve already earned their trust.\u201d<\/p>\n Even the mechanics are hands-on with customers.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ll say, \u2018Walk with me\u2014let me show you what\u2019s going on,\u2019\u201d Guzman explained. \u201cYou leave understanding, not scared, not frustrated, not feeling taken advantage of.\u201d<\/p>\n Beyond daily repairs and fleet service, Automotive Ingenuity HD has built a reputation for high-level performance work\u2014especially custom diesel and sled-pulling trucks.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no book for those builds,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cRyan is like a mad scientist. Engines, transmissions, axles\u2014everything has to handle insane horsepower without blowing up.\u201d<\/p>\n Some projects involve hundreds of thousands of dollars and require complete engine rebuilds after competitions.<\/p>\n \u201cDo we do performance work? Absolutely,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cAnd we do it well.\u201d<\/p>\n For Guzman, success is inseparable from giving back.<\/p>\n He is active with the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, HV Business Link, and the Rotary Club of Warwick, and regularly participates in charity initiatives\u2014from breast cancer fundraisers to helping a young man with paralysis retrofit his truck so he could regain mobility and independence.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t always take\u2014you have to give back,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cThat\u2019s just part of doing the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n Marketing and networking come naturally to him, though he once underestimated that gift.<\/p>\n \u201cI used to think being a \u2018people person\u2019 wasn\u2019t a real skill,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I realized later\u2014it\u2019s a calling. God gave me a voice to help people, and through that, I help the shop and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n As Automotive Ingenuity HD continues to grow\u2014with separate buildings now dedicated to performance and fleet service\u2014the mission remains simple.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just want to do the right thing by people,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cHelp them get their vehicle back on the road\u2014whether it\u2019s their livelihood or their passion.
