Hanwha Ocean and Ontario Shipyards have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at supporting the return of large-scale shipbuilding in Ontario.<\/p>\n

In a Feb. 20 press release, the company said the agreement includes technical and operational support from Hanwha Ocean to strengthen production readiness and shipyard performance at Ontario Shipyards\u2019 Hamilton facility.<\/p>\n

The cooperation is expected to focus on design and engineering, production planning, construction sequencing, quality management systems and advanced shipyard processes.<\/p>\n

Ontario Shipyards is expected to begin construction of a training and recruitment vessel in 2026, which the companies say will serve as a demonstration of expanded shipbuilding capability in the province.<\/p>\n

In a related agreement, Hanwha Ocean, Ontario Shipyards and Mohawk College have signed a letter of intent to establish a shipbuilding training hub embedded within the Hamilton shipyard.<\/p>\n

According to the release, the collaboration will support apprenticeship and co-op pathways and develop specialized credentials aligned with shipyard production needs. Training areas are expected to include welding, electrical, millwright, marine mechanics, robotics, logistics and non-destructive evaluation.<\/p>\n

The companies said the initiative is intended to address skilled trades shortages and support long-term shipbuilding capacity in Ontario.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
