ALTON \u2014 Delaney Ortmann, a 5-foot-10 sophomore for Marquette Catholic\u2019s regional champion girls basketball team, has emerged as one of the catalysts in the Explorers\u2019 success during the 2025-2026 season, according to coach Whitney Sykes.<\/p>\n

Ortmann\u2019s development this season has positioned her as a key contributor for Marquette Catholic, with Sykes pointing to her impact on both ends of the floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cDelaney is a very solid offensive player,\u201d Sykes said. \u201cShe is always a threat when she is on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ortmann is a Tucker’s Automotive Repair & Tire Female Athlete of the Month.<\/p>\n

Sykes also highlighted Ortmann\u2019s defensive presence, particularly her ability to disrupt opponents with her size and reach.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefensively, she can create a lot of problems with her length,\u201d Coach Sykes said. \u201cShe gets a lot of deflections at the top of our defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sykes said Ortmann\u2019s growth this season suggests significant potential moving forward.<\/p>\n
