The India AI Impact Summit saw some of the biggest names in the world of tech, taking the stage and addressing India and the rest of the world, talking about AI and its far-fetching potential. Shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India\u2019s human-centric AI vision \u2013 Manav \u2013 the who\u2019s who of the technology space, from Google CEO Sundar Pichai to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, explained how AI could be a force of good and what it is that they are doing to reap is many benefits <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s delve in to see what the tech bigwigs said during the summit on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Google CEO Sundar Pichai<\/h3>\n

Google CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated plans of building an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, as part of the company\u2019s massive $15 billion India investment. He said, \u201cThis hub will house gigawatt scale compute and a new international subsea cable gateway bringing jobs and cutting-edge AI to people and businesses across India.\u201d <\/p>\n

Google has also announced a network of subsea fibre optic cable that can improve connectivity between India and the US.<\/p>\n

Pichai acknowledged that AI could bring humanity to the \u201ccusp of hyperprogress.\u201d However, he reckoned that we will need to pursue AI boldly to make it helpful for everyone. The Google chief explained, \u201cAI can improve billions of lives, and solve some of the hardest problems in science.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apart from rapid advancements in AI, Sundar Pichai noted that governments will also play a key role as we navigate through this shift. He said, \u201cGovernments have a vital role that includes as regulators, setting important rules of the road and addressing key risks and importantly also as innovators bringing AI to public services.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei<\/h3>\n

Dario Amodei started off his keynote speech by mentioning that AI had seen an \u201cexponential rise\u201d in the past decade.<\/p>\n

According to the Anthropic chief, we are heading to a time when AI may become smarter than humans. He said, \u201cThere are only a small number of years for AI models surpassing the cognitive capabilities of most humans for most things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amodei reckoned that this could create what he calls a \u201ccountry of geniuses in a data centre \u2013 a set of AI agents that are more capable than most humans at most things and can coordinate at superhuman speed.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Dario predicted that this could help cure diseases, and lift billions out of poverty, he accepted that there were risks. He said, \u201cI’m concerned about the autonomous behaviour of AI models, their potential for misuse by individuals and governments.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Anthropic chief made it clear that India will play a \u201ccentral role\u201d in the future of AI. He said, \u201cAs a sign of our commitment, we just this week opened an office in Bengaluru.\u201d The AI startup has also announced partnerships with Indian firms such as Infosys.<\/p>\n

Tata Group Chairperson N Chandrasekaran<\/h3>\n

Tata Group\u2019s N Chandrasekaran made some big announcements during his keynote at the summit. The Tata Group chairperson revealed that the conglomerate was creating its own operating system in India. He said, \u201cTCS and our other company Tata Communications together we are building an AI operating system for industries.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is part of Tata Group\u2019s five-point agenda, which includes partnerships with OpenAI, and AMD. According to N Chandrasekaran, the group will create the large-scale AI-optimised data centre, in partnership with OpenAI. He added, \u201c[the centre will have] initial 100-megawatt capacity, which will scale to 1 gigawatt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Google DeepMind\u2019s Demis Hassabis<\/h3>\n

Google DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis claimed that AI will transform the pace of technological advancements. He said, \u201c[AI] is acting as a force multiplier for human ingenuity.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hassabis insisted that AI\u2019s impact could be \u201c10 times\u201d that of the industrial revolution. The Google DeepMind chief also mentioned that India played a huge role, with the company having an office in Bengaluru. He added, \u201cIndia would indeed be a powerhouse in AI across the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coming to artificial general intelligence (AGI), Demis Hassabis said, \u201cMaybe within the next five years [we’ll reach AGI].\u201d While Hassabis accepted that this could allow for greater discovery, and technological advancements, he noted that we still don\u2019t know what the future may hold. He said, \u201cWe don’t have all the answers yet on how this technology is going to develop.\u201d<\/p>\n
