Mumbai, Feb 18:<\/strong> FedEx will invest over Rs 2,500 crore to set up an exclusive, fully-automated air cargo hub at the newly commissioned Navi Mumbai International Airport.<\/p>\n

The 3 lakh sq ft facility, for which groundbreaking was held on Wednesday, will be developed in partnership with Adani Airport Holdings over the next two years. The project, part of a long-term investment plan exceeding $250 million, is designed as a regional consolidation and redistribution centre linking India with Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n

FedEx Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Raj Subramanian said establishing the hub at Navi Mumbai would integrate the company\u2019s global network with India\u2019s fastest-growing trade corridor, ensuring greater speed, efficiency and reliability for customers.<\/p>\n

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the cargo hub would complement passenger operations at the airport and strengthen the state\u2019s position as a logistics and trade gateway. Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings, said the project reflects the airport\u2019s long-term vision of building integrated infrastructure to enhance the country\u2019s trade competitiveness.<\/p>\n

The facility will begin operations with an initial handling capacity of around 0.5 million tonnes annually, scaling up in phases to approximately 3.2 million tonnes. Once operational, it is expected to generate more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs across logistics, warehousing, transportation and allied services.<\/p>\n

Equipped with advanced automated sorting systems, high-speed screening technology and dedicated aircraft parking bays, the hub will enable simultaneous processing of inbound and outbound shipments, improving transit time predictability, particularly for high-value and time-sensitive sectors such as electronics, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals and perishables.<\/p>\n
