Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said a <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#Industry#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/new-gct-policy\" target=\"_blank\">new GCT policy<\/a> will bring additional <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#Industry#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/freight-loading\" target=\"_blank\">freight loading<\/a> from automotive, cement, container, and salt among others. The minister said the national transporter will also prioritise <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#Industry#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/hygienic-travel-experience\" target=\"_blank\">hygienic travel experience<\/a>, improving the service in general class coaches and bringing them at par with reserved categories.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&amp;pos=toppotime:1-->\u201cThe existing 124 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are expected to increase to more than 500 in the next five years,\u201d Vaishnaw said Saturday, adding many underutilised goods sheds will be developed as GCTs and cargo facilities.<br \/><!--\/budget_surveybanner.cms?msid=126369359&amp;type=showpotime:1--><br \/>An official statement said legacy sidings developed under earlier policies can migrate to the simplified GCT framework. To curb accidents at private sector owned connecting stretches between terminals and main lines, the Railways will now \u201coptionally undertake maintenance on a payment basis,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister noted this new GCT policy is in line with the national transporter\u2019s resolve to undertake \u201c52 reforms in 52 weeks\u201d during 2026.
