The State Administration for Market Regulation of the People\u2019s
\nRepublic of China has released an updated version of the \u201cRules on
\nPrice Behavior,\u201d which apply to automobile manufacturers,
\ndealerships, and spare parts suppliers, AzerNEWS<\/strong>
\nreports.<\/p>\n

The information was published on the regulator\u2019s official
\nwebsite. According to the updated document, when setting product
\nprices, companies must base their calculations on actual production
\ncosts and take into account the current balance of supply and
\ndemand in the market.<\/p>\n

The new rules introduce stricter requirements regarding the
\nrelationship between selling prices and production costs.
\nAutomotive industry participants are strictly prohibited from
\nentering into price-fixing agreements or coordinating pricing
\nstrategies. The directive emphasizes that failure to comply with
\nthese standards may entail \u201cserious legal consequences\u201d for
\nviolators.<\/p>\n

According to a report by the China Association of Automobile
\nManufacturers (CAAM), vehicle sales in December 2025 fell by 18%
\nyear-on-year, while in January the decline reached nearly 20% \u2014 the
\nsharpest drop since February 2024.<\/p>\n

The weakening of consumer demand in the domestic market is
\nlargely attributed to households\u2019 reluctance to make major
\npurchases amid a prolonged cost-of-living squeeze and broader
\neconomic uncertainty. As a result, manufacturers are being forced
\nto cut prices to stimulate sales, which in turn compresses profit
\nmargins and intensifies competition.<\/p>\n

Analysts note that the updated pricing regulations may be aimed
\nnot only at preventing unfair competition, but also at stabilizing
\nthe market during a period of volatility. In the long term, the
\nauthorities appear to be seeking a balance between supporting
\nconsumer affordability and preventing destructive price wars that
\ncould undermine the financial sustainability of automakers.<\/p>\n
