Two merchant shipping crew members requiring urgent medical attention were airlifted from a vessel by Malta\u2019s armed forces (AFM) on Friday before being taken to Mater Dei for further treatment.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on Facebook<\/a>, the AFM said adverse weather conditions had made the operation \u201cparticularly challenging\u201d.<\/p>\n

Malta has been buffeted by strong winds in recent days, with the Met Office issuing a red weather warning<\/a> yesterday, downgraded to orange on Friday morning. Windspeeds reached almost 100km\/h on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The AFM urged the public to observe weather warnings and avoid venturing out to sea in such circumstances.<\/p>\n
