New Delhi: The Niti Aayog<\/a> has proposed launching structured tech-services trade missions<\/a> targeting priority regions such as Japan, West Asia and Germany while developing a unified India Tech-Services brand<\/a> platform that positions small and specialist Indian players as trusted partners in artificial intelligence (AI) along with establishing a market access facilitation cell that would provide structured assistance to specialist players.<\/p>\n

The recommendations are part of the comprehensive blueprint laid out by the Aayog in its report ‘India’s Technology Services – Reimagination Ahead’, released on Thursday. Launching the report, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal<\/a> recommended stock market participants to ‘pick up’ information technology stocks and urged them to ‘have faith’ in India’s IT services ecosystem. “Have faith in our IT services ecosystem as this sector will never die,” he said.<\/p>\n

The report said, “India stands at a critical inflection point in the global technology services industry. While its vast talent base and unparalleled data endowments provide a unique advantage, delaying the transformation for AI could erode decades of progress.” <\/p>\n

It cautioned, “This delay could lead to job losses, a decline in its global technology leadership, and loss of opportunities in data-driven growth-which may be difficult to reverse.”<\/p>\n

According to the report, India should redeploy its workforce through reskilling rather than displacing workers with the advent of AI as doing so can help protect about 1.5 million at-risk industry jobs.<\/p>\n

It called for protecting India’s global technology services leadership position saying the country is at a tipping point and inaction could potentially jeopardise decades of competitive edge, allowing other countries to take the lead in next-gen, AI-driven services. “India should capture the data opportunity ahead of competition through decisive action to maintain its strategic advantage, from having strong endowments, such as the largest data sets in the country,” it said.<\/p>\n
