Frankfurt Airport has added a high-speed charging park for trucks in response to road freight operators increasingly utilising electric vehicles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The charging park is located near Gate 31 in CargoCity South and has four charging points, each of which delivers up to 400 kilowatts of power.<\/p>\n

The decision to put the charging points in place follows a survey of logistics companies operating services to the airport, showing an increased use of electric trucks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Frankfurt Airport, we stay in close touch with our cargo community and regularly inquire about their needs,\u201d said Michael Kuschel, the manager responsible for airport operator Fraport\u2019s power networks and services.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust two years ago, the unanimous message from the trucking industry was that electric drives simply weren\u2019t catching on. But that had changed by the spring of 2025, when surveyed companies reported that they had started to order electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Frankfurt Airport, Germany\u2018s main cargo hub, we\u2019ve provided a sufficient number of appropriate charging facilities,\u201d Kuschel added.<\/p>\n

Fraport added that installing new e-charging stations for sustainable trucking is also a key component of its CargoHub master plan, which calls for investing in innovative products and freight processes.<\/p>\n

The high-speed charging facility for trucks is part of a wider project at the airport that aims to increase the airport\u2019s charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is supporting the project on the basis of a resolution by Germany\u2019s parliament, and will have contributed more than \u20ac5m from its \u201cElectrically Mobile\u201d programme by the year 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will help reduce the cost of transitioning to electromobility while also promoting innovation in Germany, with the overall objective of making transportation more climate- and environmentally friendly,\u201d the airport operator said.<\/p>\n
