CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. \u2014 Metra SouthWest Service trains are back in operation today (Thursday, Feb. 12) following a Wednesday freight derailment that shut down the 15-round-trip-a-day operation between Chicago Union Station and Orland Park\/Manhattan, Ill.<\/p>\n

In a social media post<\/a> shortly after 5 a.m., the commuter operator said it had been informed its tracks would be reopened by 5:30 a.m. and that trains will operate with minor delays. As of 7 a.m., the second inbound train of the day, No. 802, was shown to be due at Union Station about 7:22 a.m., or approximately 10 minutes late.<\/p>\n

All SouthWest Service trains were cancelled Wednesday after the derailment of a CSX intermodal train blocked a diamond crossing with Metra\u2019s tracks near the Chicago Ridge station [see \u201cFreight derailment halts \u2026,\u201d<\/a> Trains.com, Feb. 11, 2026].<\/p>\n

Oak Lawn police report<\/a> that a street closure at Central Avenue and 108th Street because of the derailment reopened late Wednesday, while Chicago Ridge police announced<\/a> all roads in the area have reopened.<\/p>\n
