A freight train derailment in Chicago Ridge is impacting Metra SWS service on Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n

According to Chicago Ridge police, the derailment took place near Ridgeland Avenue and Central Avenue. Police said there is no danger to the public, and emergency crews are working closely with railroad officials to assess the situation.<\/p>\n

All Metra train service to and from Chicago Ridge was suspended as the morning commute began. Commuters are encouraged to seek alternate routes.  <\/p>\n

Kris Habermehl recommends commuters use the Rock Island and Heritage Corridor as alternate Metra routes.<\/p>\n

Chicago Ridge Mayor John “Jack” Lind said he was contacted immediately by local officials.<\/p>\n

“Since our town is basically landlocked by train tracks, they have been more than helpful, and they are doing their best to clear the tracks. <\/p>\n

Lind said the tracks will be closed for an “indeterminate amount of time.” <\/p>\n
