The six Adani<\/a>-operated PPP (Private Public Partnership) international airports have shown a 19 per cent increase in freight handling – both domestic and international – between April and December 2025 versus the same period last year, data from Airports Authority of India shows. <\/p>\n

Ahmedabad topped the chart with a 29.7 per cent increase and even crossed the one lakh tonne mark. It is inching closer to the AAI-operated Kolkata airport, which handled 1.25 lakh tonnes in the period under review. <\/p>\n

Other than Ahmedabad, the group operates Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Guwahati and Mangaluru airports.<\/p>\n

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) awarded the six airports for Operations, Management and Development under Public Private Partnership (PPP) for a period of 50 years in the year 2020-2021. All the six are operated by the Adani group .<\/p>\n

In the first nine months of this fiscal, except for PPP Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalauru airports, the rest showed a growth versus previous year.<\/p>\n

\u201cEncouraging non-metro airports to raise up to the Indian foreign trade has been actively pursued by the privatised airport Cargo operations are no longer a subsidiary revenue but a healthy stream of income that is vital to the operating profits of airports. This has been well understood and acted upon by the private operators,\u201d said J Krishnan of Natesan Iyer LLC, a Chennai-based freight forwarding company.<\/p>\n

According to Dinesh Krishnan, Managing Director of United Shipping Services Pvt Ltd, PPP-led airport management, combined with manufacturing dispersion and airline network recalibration, is gradually reshaping India\u2019s air cargo map from a metro-centric model to a multi-node regional network.<\/p>\n

We need the government-run airport operators ( AAICLAS & AIASL) to modernise terminal infrastructure, enhance CAPEX and an efficient management system to be able to deliver the demands of the EXIM trade for reliable and top class air cargo logistics products, said Dinesh Krishnan, who is also the Chairman, The Air cargo Agents Association of India (South).<\/p>\n
