Science Minister Lord Vallance has hailed the Oxford region as a \u201chotbed of innovation\u201d in a visit to the new Oxford North R&D hub in support of government plans to support science and tech super cluster in the Oxford-Cambridge corridor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oxford North is a new innovation district in the southern English city. The 64-acre site has been backed by \u00a31.2bn of investment from Thomas White Oxford, Ontario Teachers\u2019 Pension Plan and Stanhope.<\/p>\n

Thousands of construction workers have been sent to the site with plans to establish almost one million sq ft of office space and advanced laboratory space.<\/p>\n

The district will house science and technology businesses including startups, spinouts and global companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cOxford North is a hotbed for innovation which will help us secure the UK\u2019s status as a global powerhouse in industries like quantum computing and life sciences,\u201d said Lord Vallance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the right ingredients are here \u2013 from infrastructure and talent to opportunity and innovation \u2013 and this new site will empower talented teams to realise their potential and drive British-made breakthroughs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lord Vallance is among the government\u2019s most adamant proponents<\/a> of plans to support an innovation hub in the Oxford-Cambridge corridor, having described it as \u201ccentral\u201d to Labour\u2019s growth plans and an \u201ceconomic engine for the entire country\u201d.<\/p>\n
