Finnair Cargo<\/span><\/span> will insource the operations of its Cargo COOL terminal at Helsinki Airport<\/span><\/span> following a business transfer from Swissport Finland<\/span><\/span>, as the carrier looks to strengthen end-to-end control of its cargo processes.<\/p>\n

Under the plans, Swissport Finland personnel currently operating at the Cargo COOL terminal will transfer to Finnair Cargo Oy on January 01, 2027.<\/p>\n

Finnair Cargo has decided not to renew its service agreement with Swissport Finland covering warehouse and transport operations at the facility, although the existing contract will remain in place until the end of this year.<\/p>\n

According to Finnair Cargo, the decision follows a continuous review of its operating model and is aimed at improving efficiency, ways of working and overall process integration, while also supporting future growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis change is based on continuous evaluation of our operations, and the aim is to improve Finnair Cargo\u2019s end-to-end processes, ways of working and efficiency, as well as to enable growth,\u201d said Gabriela Hiitola, senior vice president of Finnair Cargo.<\/p>\n

The warehouse and transport operations were originally outsourced in 2009, with Swissport Finland taking over responsibility for these services in 2019. The planned transfer of business is expected to affect approximately 150 Swissport Finland employees dedicated to Finnair Cargo operations. Following the transfer, these employees will join Finnair as staff members, retaining their existing employment terms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe warmly welcome the transferring employees to Finnair and look forward to continuing the excellent Cargo COOL operations as one team,\u201d Hiitola added.<\/p>\n

Finnair Cargo<\/a> currently employs around 110 air cargo professionals, meaning the insourcing move will more than double the size of its workforce. The airline specialises in the transport of temperature-controlled shipments, including pharmaceuticals, seafood and other perishables.<\/p>\n

Opened in 2018, the Cargo COOL terminal at Helsinki Airport is regarded as one of the most advanced air cargo facilities globally, purpose-built to handle sensitive, high-value and temperature-critical cargo flows.<\/p>\n
