Tourism CS Rebecca Miano has called
\nfor an in-depth integration of AI technology into the tourism sector, identifying
\ninnovation as no longer an extra in tourism but as an engine for its growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CS made the announcement during the
\nongoing World Governments Summit in Dubai.<\/span><\/p>\n

CS Miano held discussions with Doron Avni, Google\u2019s
\nVice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Emerging Markets. <\/span><\/p>\n

She
\nsaid the aim was to collaborate and partner with Google in skills training and
\ncapacity building, which was geared towards making tourism more accessible and
\ntech-friendly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy integrating AI-driven and other
\npredictive analytics, we aren’t just looking at the anticipated 5 million plus
\nvisitors, we’re setting a stage for their unparalleled destination experience,\u201d
\nshe said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CS commended the significant
\nprogress in emerging tech with the country\u2019s tourism systems. She remarked on the
\nseamless entry of foreign tourists via the eTA system and AI-powered wildlife
\nmonitoring in the Maasai Mara, saying it ensured smart conservation and premium
\nhospitality.<\/span><\/p>\n

CS Miano envisioned that by
\nemploying AI and blockchain technology, the government would get rid of bureaucracies
\nthat were strenuous and costly and also ensure that more revenue would go
\ndirectly to the local communities and conservancies.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are positioning Kenya as not
\nonly a destination but also as a global hub for Travel Tech startups aimed at
\ndoubling the sector’s GDP contribution to 8% by the end of next year,\u201d the CS said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe digital gates to Magical Kenya
\nare wide open,\u201d the CS said, urging partners and potential stakeholders in the
\ntech and travel sector to consider Kenya as a viable hub for digital creation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This appeal for innovative technology
\nin wildlife and tourism is made days after the Kenya Space Agency launched
\nProject Centinela, an initiative aiming to use satellite imagery for habitat
\nmonitoring and restoration of the endangered mountain bongo habitat.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project would apply high-definition
\nearth observation data to establish historical forest and habitat and current
\nimagery to assess present land cover conditions to guide long-term restoration
\nefforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis allows us to measure
\nrestoration progress and better understand historical environmental changes,
\nwhich directly informs our breeding, rewilding and long-term conservation
\nstrategies,\u201d said Dr. Robert Aruho, head of conservancy at the Mount Kenya
\nWildlife Conservancy.<\/span><\/p>\n

This initiative underscored the crucial
\nrole of technology in biodiversity and restoration efforts and conveyed the need
\nfor collaboration between government agencies, conservation agencies, and
\ntechnology partners.<\/span><\/p>\n
