Major \u200dautomakers on Wednesday \u200bcalled for changes \u2060in the Trump administration’s proposal to reform fuel economy standards \u200cbut \u200csaid they back the plan \u200cto drastically slash the efficiency requirements.<\/p>\n

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation<\/a>, which represents General Motors, Toyota Motor, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Ford and other \u200cautomakers, \u200dbacked the reduction \u200din stringency proposed by the National \u200cHighway Traffic Safety Administration but asked it not eliminate credit trading and reconsider plans to reclassify more \u200dvehicles as cars.<\/p>\n

“Given the slowing growth of \u200dEV \u2060sales \u2060in the U.S. and reduced government policy support, the previously issued CAFE standards are simply unachievable,” the group said. <\/p>\n
