content<\/p>\n<p>During a recent four-day workshop in Sudbury, teachers gained hands-on experience with real Tormach CNC mills, robotics kits, conventional engine lathes and milling machines, Autodesk Fusion CAD\/CAM software, modern manufacturing equipment, and precision hand tools like calipers, micrometers and indicators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs teachers become more confident using the modern equipment and software, they bring more hands-on learning experiences into the classroom for the benefit of students,\u201d said Bruce Bourget, director of education with the Rainbow District School Board, in a release. \u201cStudents in Rainbow schools are using the machinery and tools used in industry, making the learning that much more relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<div fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents are being introduced to the trades at a younger age and are now required to take one broad-based technology education course in Grades 9 or 10,\u201d the board said. \u201cThere are also more opportunities for students to pursue trades-related courses in Grades 11 and 12 as they prepare for apprenticeships, college, university or the world of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bourget said the board is grateful to industry partners for making the training available. \u201cOngoing professional learning ensures that our technology teachers are up-to-date with industry standards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Much like courses in secondary schools, each training module had specific learning goals and outcomes delivered through a hands-on approach.<span their classroom lessons,\u201d the board said. \u201cStudents are gaining practical experience linked directly to curriculum expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For example, in CNC machining, teachers learned about the machine setup, work offsets and tool lengths. They also ran sample jobs and troubleshooted concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In CAD\/CAM with Fusion, teachers created 3D designs, generated tool paths, exported geometric code, and prepared files for classroom machines.<\/p>\n<p>Robotics 101 focused on programming sensors and robots safely, integrating automation, and using classroom-friendly kits.
