Functions such as finance, legal services and supply chain management are extending into areas like climate risk analysis, sustainable procurement and digital green technology integration across operations and regulatory reporting.

At the same time, sectors including aviation and maritime are preparing for new and transformed roles linked to lower-carbon fuels, energy efficiency and the growth of carbon services and trading markets.

More than 100 programmes and initiatives have already been introduced by agencies and industry partners to equip workers with relevant capabilities. These range from technical competencies in clean energy systems to analytical and compliance skills needed for sustainability governance, highlighting how digital, data and environmental knowledge are becoming intertwined.

Two areas were identified as immediate priorities due to strong demand: sustainability reporting and the energy sector. About 5,000 workers are expected to be needed in each field by 2030. To close the gap, targeted measures have been introduced.

A national Sustainability Reporting Body of Knowledge standardises course design and supports trainer development. This ensures consistent, high-quality instruction across providers. Workers and small and medium enterprises can also join dedicated programmes. These offer hands-on experience in sustainability reporting practices.

In the energy sector, new continuing education and training programmes have been launched in partnership with local institutes of higher learning and training providers. These courses aim to equip engineers, technicians and managers with the skills to operate and optimise cleaner, more efficient energy systems as businesses adopt decarbonisation technologies.

Beyond sector-specific initiatives, authorities are strengthening the broader training ecosystem. A dedicated green skills portal on the national jobs and skills platform, along with enhanced funding support for approved courses, makes upskilling more accessible.

Practical tools for employers, HR teams, trainers and workers help ensure training remains responsive to changing needs. The collaborative approach between government and industry is intended to keep training relevant and agile as technologies and regulations evolve.

The report marks the conclusion of the committee’s formal work but signals continued commitment to workforce development. Officials emphasised that investing in green skills will enable both companies and workers to seize emerging opportunities while supporting national climate and economic goals.

Taken together, the initiatives reflect a broader shift in workforce strategy. They prepare Singaporeans not only for the demands of decarbonisation, but for a future where sustainability, technology and data capabilities are deeply interconnected.

Continuous learning is central to long-term growth and competitiveness across industries, communities, supply chains and emerging regional innovation ecosystems. This approach enables inclusive productivity gains for workers and enterprises alike.

… proof its workforce for a technology-driven and sustainability-critical economy … , sustainable procurement and digital green technology integration across operations and regulatory … for a future where sustainability, technology and data capabilities are deeply …

[1

post-72845","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","wpcat-1-id
["GET
