LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Driverless cargo shuttles<\/a> could transform trade between Laredo and Mexico by 2032 under a $10 billion project presented to the Laredo Port of Entry Committee.<\/p>\n

Green Corridors outlined plans for an autonomous bridge system that will carry cargo trucks on driverless shuttles between Laredo and Monterrey. The company showed a demonstration video revealing the shuttle design and operation during the committee meeting.<\/p>\n

The project received a presidential permit in June 2025<\/a>, with construction required to begin within five years. Green Corridors says the project is privately funded, with completion expected by 2032.<\/p>\n

Lorne Alcock, chief of staff for Green Corridors, said the technology will benefit the environment through reduced fuel consumption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shuttles are autonomous, but they\u2019re powered by diesel electric motors, similar to a locomotive on a train,\u201d Alcock said. \u201cThe key feature there is that there are no people involved. It\u2019s completely autonomous and has a 75% reduction in diesel fuel. For the same amount of weight to go the same distance, it\u2019s 75% less.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alcock said Green Corridors has already signed a memorandum of understanding with Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia for the cross-border project.<\/p>\n
