href=\"https:\/\/www.pressenterprise.com\/2026\/01\/03\/could-private-cargo-flights-come-back-to-march-air-reserve-base\/\">a civilian air cargo facility<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressenterprise.com\/tag\/march-air-reserve-base\/\">March Air Reserve Base<\/a> will get a public hearing.<\/p>\n<p>A Wednesday, Feb. 4, hearing on the <a href=\"https:\/\/marchjpa.com\/meridian-d1-gateway-aviation-center-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meridian D-1 Gateway Aviation Center<\/a> has been delayed \u201cuntil further notice,\u201d according to an announcement by the <a href=\"https:\/\/marchjpa.com\/about\/march-joint-powers-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March Joint Powers Commission<\/a>, a public agency overseeing civilian air operations at the base near Riverside.<\/p>\n<p><!-- The post ponement is due \u201cto real property negotiations that the commission will discuss in closed session,\u201d authority CEO Grace Martin said via email.<\/p>\n<p>She did not have a date for a rescheduled hearing.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s a military base controlled by the U.S. Air Force, March allows limited civilian air traffic. <a href=\"https:\/\/lewisgroupofcompanies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lewis Management Corp.<\/a> of Upland wants to build the project on a 46-acre site between the base and Heacock Street.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related left\"><\/aside>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/marchjpa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Meridian-D-1-Gateway-Aviation-Center-Project-FEIR.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the project\u2019s environmental study<\/a>, there would be, at most, 17 two-way flights per day, six days a week from their air cargo center. During the holiday season \u2014 late November through late December \u2014 that cap would rise to 21 flights a day, six days a week.<\/p>\n<p>The project faces opposition from residents who remember overhead noise from DHL cargo flights out of March in the mid-2000s.
