Yazmyn Scruggs scored a game-high 19 points, collected six rebounds and had four steals for 10th-seeded Newark Tech in its 51-39 victory against 23rd-seeded Weequahic in the preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament in Newark.<\/p>\n

Newark Tech (18-1) led 26-17 at halftime against Weequahic. Weequahic (10-7) cut the lead in the third quarter by outscoring Newark Tech 12-9.<\/p>\n

Newark Tech expanded its advantage with a 16-10 fourth quarter to seal its victory.<\/p>\n

Kassidy Ahmad scored 12 points, tallied three rebounds, dished out seven assists and had six steals for Newark Tech. Ava Antonie scored 11 points.<\/p>\n

Anaya Whitehead led Weequahic with 15 points. Jasmine Agyeman-Budu recorded a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.<\/p>\n

Newark Tech will face seventh-seeded West Essex in the first round on Saturday.<\/p>\n
