HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss plans for expanding mutual cooperation in the shipbuilding industry.<\/p>\n

HD Hyundai announced on Jan. 29 that Chairman Jung and Kim Hyung-kwan, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, attended the Global Energy Leaders Roundtable held the previous day at the Prime Minister\u2019s residence in New Delhi, India, at Modi\u2019s invitation.<\/p>\n

The roundtable was held as part of India Energy Week 2026. A total of about 30 people participated, including Modi, ministers from relevant Indian government departments, representatives of state-owned enterprises, and global corporate CEOs.<\/p>\n

At this meeting, Chung expressed gratitude for Modi\u2019s will and efforts to foster the shipbuilding industry. He also requested continued interest and support for the cooperation projects with India that HD Hyundai is pursuing.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cHD Hyundai continues to maintain close cooperative relationships with India in various fields,\u201d adding, \u201cIndia is the core of our overseas production base diversification strategy, and I am confident that it will become HD Hyundai\u2019s new growth engine.\u201d<\/p>\n

HD Hyundai signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cochin Shipyard, India\u2019s largest state-owned shipbuilder, in July last year to participate in the \u201cMaritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047\u201d project that the Indian government is strategically pursuing, and agreed to promote cooperation in various aspects including design and procurement support and productivity improvement.<\/p>\n

Recently, it expanded the scope of cooperation with Cochin Shipyard to naval vessels and signed an exclusive business agreement on joint shipyard construction with the Tamil Nadu state government of India. Furthermore, it is accelerating its entry into the Indian market by pursuing crane business cooperation with state-owned BEML and other initiatives.<\/p>\n

From India, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri visited Korea in November last year, and Tamil Nadu State Minister of Industries Raja visited in January this year. They toured HD Hyundai\u2019s Global R&D Center and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries\u2019 Ulsan shipyard to explore ways to strengthen cooperation.<\/p>\n
