The CEOs of Volkswagen, \u200dBMW
\nand Mercedes welcomed the finalization of \u200ba long-pending
\nlandmark trade deal between India \u200cand the European Union \u200bon
\nTuesday, saying that it represented an opportunity for Germany.<\/p>\n

The deal “is extremely important for Germany as an export
\nnation, which we want to remain – we are very pleased that
\nthings are now \u200bmoving quickly, that we are \u2060expanding
\nmultilateral relations rather than cutting them off,” BMW Chief
\nExecutive Oliver Zipse told Reuters on \u200bthe sidelines of \u2060a
\nbusiness conference organised by the Welt newspaper in Berlin.<\/p>\n

“Any move towards opening up markets and strengthening
\ntrade, as \u200cwell as our opportunities to \u200cexpand our strong export
\neconomy, is positive for Germany and positive \u200dfor Europe,”
\nMercedes CEO Ola Kaellenius told Reuters.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume also welcomed \u200dthe deal,
\nsaying that he supported “every initiative for trade agreements
\nwith regions of the world.”<\/p>\n

He said Volkswagen saw opportunity in India’s car
\nindustry – the third largest in the world – adding that the
\ncompany would now “carefully examine the details of \u2060the trade
\nagreement and then evaluate how we will proceed in \u200bIndia.”<\/p>\n

In 2024, the German automotive industry \u2060exported goods
\nworth 1.115 billion euros ($1.32 billion)to India, of which 868
\nmillion euros were parts, according to Germany’s VDA automotive
\nassociation.<\/p>\n
