A significant investment in national defense is set to transform Northwest Alabama. Leaders celebrated the opening of a new facility in Cherokee, which is expected to bring thousands of jobs to The Shoals.<\/p>\n

The facility, unveiled Friday, aims to boost America’s shipbuilding capacity. Federal and state leaders emphasized its dual role in enhancing national security and providing an economic boost to the area.<\/p>\n

“Over a thousand new jobs in this community. Over 2.2 billion dollars will be invested in this factory. This is what we need. This is the beginning of the Golden Fleet, revitalizing the maritime industrial base,” said Navy Secretary John Phelan.<\/p>\n

Congressman Robert Aderholt highlighted the facility’s significance for Alabama, noting its potential to strengthen the nation’s defense industrial base.<\/p>\n

“There’s so many parts of this state and our country that sometimes have gotten left behind, but this is really going to be the factory of the future,” said Aderholt. “This is really going to transform Northwest Alabama. The reason this area is so appealing to the Navy, to Hadrian, is because you have the energy that’s available, the power that’s available at a very reasonable rate. You’ve got the inland water with the Tennessee River.”<\/p>\n

The facility spans more than two million square feet and is expected to create thousands of jobs, impacting both the local economy and national security.<\/p>\n

“We have multibillion-dollar companies that have moved to this state over the years. We have some more coming. Nothing more important than that. This will be a generational influence on our military. Not five, not 10 years, generational,” said Sen. Tommy Tuberville.<\/p>\n
