Indian state-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)<\/strong> has ordered a dual-fuel methanol platform supply vessel, marking the first such order in the country.<\/p>\n

The company signed the shipbuilding contract for the 3,000 DWT<\/strong> vessel with India\u2019s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited<\/strong>, SCI said in a LinkedIn <\/strong>post on Thursday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Describing the project as a milestone, SCI said the vessel would support India\u2019s push towards cleaner shipping while strengthening domestic shipbuilding capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis first-of-its-kind green vessel marks a significant step towards a low-carbon maritime future, aligning with the nation\u2019s Net Zero commitments and reinforcing the nation\u2019s thrust on indigenous shipbuilding,\u201d it said in the post.<\/p>\n

The order comes as India moves to develop methanol as a marine fuel.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Mumbai Port Authority<\/strong> issued an expression of interest<\/a> (EOI) for companies to supply methanol as a bunker fuel at Mumbai Harbour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kandla Port<\/strong> in Gujarat<\/strong> is advancing plans for an e-methanol plant<\/a> with a production capacity of 150 mt\/day, intended to support marine fuel demand.<\/p>\n
