Volvo Cars has become the only legacy automaker globally to achieve Level 5 software-defined vehicle (SDV) capability in S&P Global Mobility\u2019s ranking of carmaker software capabilities. The recognition reflects the company\u2019s ability to deliver over-the-air (OTA) updates that add safety features, increase driving range, unlock faster charging speeds and enhance user experience across its vehicle lineup.<\/p>\n

At the core of Volvo Cars\u2019 SDV architecture is HuginCore, an in-house-developed system integrating electrical architecture, a core computer, zone controllers and software. HuginCore underpins the company\u2019s three software-defined models \u2014 the EX90, ES90 and EX60 \u2014 and enables the conversion of real-world fleet data into training inputs for future safety and driver assistance systems.<\/p>\n

Volvo Cars describes the technological transformation as the largest in the company\u2019s near-100-year history, with the SDV architecture enabling faster development cycles and scalable improvements deployed remotely across vehicles already on the road.<\/p>\n

In a statement, H\u00e5kan Samuelsson, Chief Executive of Volvo Cars, said: \u201cYears of focused engineering efforts and investments have given Volvo software capabilities that only a select few in the industry have achieved.
