Gray floor and wall in background.\" width=\"840\" height=\"438\" data-lazy-load=\"true\" src=\"https:\/\/erepublic.brightspotcdn.com\/dims4\/default\/b8d472d\/2147483647\/strip\/true\/crop\/940x490+0+70\/resize\/840x438!\/quality\/90\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ferepublic-brightspot.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com%2F7d%2Fea%2Fbdb4bc4c28b04762f4fa85996992%2Fshutterstock-recruit-tech-talent.jpg\">  <\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Page-article\">\n<div class=\"Page-articleBody RichTextBody\"> Pennsylvania has started a fresh government technology recruitment drive that seeks to match STEM graduates with state agencies via fellowships.<\/p>\n<p>The state is accepting applications for the 2026 <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.governmentjobs.com\/careers\/pabureau\/jobs\/5268557\/governors-science-and-technology-fellowship\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">Governor\u2019s Science and Technology Fellowship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/agencies\/oa\/newsroom\/shapiro-administration-announces-new-public-service-opportunitie\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">A statement<\/a> described the fellowship as \u201ca competitive, year-long program that places top science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) graduates in state agencies to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-bsp-pv=\"4f8e492c-6f2f-390e-bc61-f176d3a37ab9\"><\/span><span data-bsp-pv=\"0000019d-0219-d486-a19d-a6bb94470000\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/main><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The state will accept applications until April 7. Positions pay $79,000 annually. Applicants must have earned, or will earn, at least a master\u2019s degree between December 2020 and August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs government increasingly relies on data, technology and scientific expertise, it\u2019s critical that we recruit professionals with advanced STEM knowledge,\u201d said Secretary of Administration Neil Weaver in the statement. \u201cThe Governor\u2019s Science and Technology Fellowship is bringing fresh perspectives and technical skills that help agencies work smarter and better serve Pennsylvanians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Past fellows have worked on projects that focused on such areas as data analytics, environmental modeling, health and human services innovation, emerging technologies and operational efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>People selected for the new round of this program will work with a variety of agencies.<\/p>\n<p>That includes the Department of General Services, which seeks to improve its data quality, accessibility and efficiency while deploying more AI tools through \u201ca transformative data and AI initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another position is with the Department of Agriculture, which seeks a person with \u201cbackground in microbiology, virology or infectious diseases to help incorporate next-generation tools for disease diagnostics in the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory.\u201d That position will have the fellow using \u201ccutting-edge genomics and bioinformatics\u201d to track disease.<\/p>\n<p>Another project involves what the statement called \u201ca transformative data and AI initiative\u201d for the Department of General Services, which seeks to improve its data quality, accessibility and efficiency while deploying more AI tools.<\/p>\n<p>The gov tech recruitment drive comes as <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.govtech.com\/workforce\/nebraska-cio-on-preparing-for-future-talent-tech-needs\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">public agency tech leaders<\/a> call for more diversity in hiring while also reducing IT costs, and as they seek to replace retiring workers with younger talent.
