{"id":126669,"date":"2026-03-18T07:25:36","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shipping.einnews.com\/article\/900197381"},"modified":"2026-03-18T07:25:36","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:25:36","slug":"odot-partners-with-indot-to-test-automated-freight-trucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new7.shop\/zerocostfreehost\/index.php\/2026\/03\/18\/odot-partners-with-indot-to-test-automated-freight-trucks\/","title":{"rendered":"ODOT partners with INDOT to test automated freight trucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img data-opt-id=1153248007  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com\/dims4\/default\/01a77cb\/2147483647\/strip\/true\/crop\/1280x672+0+24\/resize\/1200x630!\/quality\/90\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcf.cdn.uplynk.com%2Fause1%2Fslices%2Fd25%2Fb2c1c5c2af374f52af57ddcae54c6663%2Fd25099086ecf460fb7220f2f2d97ef80%2Fposter_309e968320ac4b018b7b70398591b28a.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"RichTextArticleBody\">\n<div class=\"RichTextArticleBody-body\">\n<p>Automated freight trucks are being tested out on some of the Midwest&#8217;s busiest highways, thanks to a collaboration between the Ohio and Indiana Departments of Transportation. <\/p>\n<p>The two state departments have been developing and testing new safety technology on freight trucks. <\/p>\n<p>The trucks have been outfitted with many of the same features we find in our own vehicles, such as lane-keep assistance, automatic braking, and blind-spot warning and detection. <\/p>\n<p>There are some more advanced features surrounding the trucks, like radars and cameras. <\/p>\n<p>For instance, if one of these semis starts to drift into another lane or misses a speeding car passing it, this technology steers the truck back into its lane. <\/p>\n<p>This technology will not eliminate drivers from being in the cab, but ODOT said it should keep everyone safe from human error. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Humans are tired,&#8221; Breanna Badanes with DriveOhio, a division of ODOT, said. &#8220;They&#8217;re distracted, not just on their phones, but just their minds are always turning. If we can give them the tools to help them be a safer driver, that makes the road safer for everyone.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>These automated trucks were most recently tested along Interstate 70, but ODOT and INDOT have tested them on other interstates as well. <\/p>\n<p>They want to make sure this technology works in all types of climates and situations. <\/p>\n<p>Private shipping and freight companies are involved with the study, too. <\/p>\n<p>When the study wraps next summer, the results will be shared with the U.S. Department of Transportation. <\/p>\n<div class=\"Form\">\n<div class=\"Form-title\">We Follow Through<\/div>\n<div class=\"Form-description\">Want us to continue to follow through on a story?
