The recently filed trademark<\/a> is for the \u201cTRD Hammer\u201d <\/strong>name, and that\u2019s about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face. Automakers don\u2019t trademark names like this for fun, especially not ones tied to their performance division, which in this case is Toyota Racing Development.<\/p>\n

What makes this even more interesting is that the name has popped up before. Toyota previously surveyed Toyota Tundra owners and included \u201cTRD Hammer\u201d as a potential future model. That suggests this isn\u2019t a last-minute idea because it\u2019s been quietly brewing behind the scenes already. <\/p>\n

If this is indeed for a super truck, and if it makes it to production, then we can expect it to sit above<\/em> the already capable TRD Pro models. If The Tundra get this new variant, then it will be the direct competitor to the Ford F-150 Raptor.<\/p>\n
