captionrendered=&quot;1&quot; alt=&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The plan is to set up a new dry dock and slipway. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&gt;<figcaption class=\"caption\"><span>The plan is to set up a new dry dock and slipway. <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MUMBAI: <\/b><a id=\"34166011\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/titagarh+naval+systems\">Titagarh Naval Systems<\/a> Ltd, a wholly-owned unit of Mumbai-listed <a id=\"20328612\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/titagarh+rail+systems\">Titagarh Rail Systems<\/a> Ltd, will expand capacity to build ships of the size of <a id=\"24147565\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/medium+range+tankers\">Medium Range tankers<\/a> by setting up a \u20b9550 crore facility spread over 50 acres in West Bengal, funded partly by a 25 per cent <a id=\"20789623\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/capital+subsidy\">capital subsidy<\/a> extended by the Union government under the <a id=\"28988279\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/shipbuilding+development+scheme\">Shipbuilding Development Scheme<\/a>, a government official said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT_M --><a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/titagarh+naval+systems\">Titagarh Naval Systems<\/a> has applied for <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/capital+subsidy\">capital subsidy<\/a> for <a id=\"22060204\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/brownfield+expansion\">brownfield expansion<\/a> under the <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/shipbuilding+development+scheme\">Shipbuilding Development Scheme<\/a>, becoming one of the early movers on a scheme designed to expand India\u2019s <a id=\"24651017\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/shipbuilding+capacity\">shipbuilding capacity<\/a> to meet the ambitious targets set by the government, the government official said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTitagarh Naval Systems is expanding with an investment of \u20b9550 crore. It has one location in Kolkata and has taken some 50 acres in another location from the West Bengal government for expansion,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT_M -->The plan is to set up a new dry dock and slipway. The initial expansion plan involving an investment of some \u20b9330 crore was only for constructing slipway, block fabrication and fabrication sheds etc. With the Shipbuilding Development Scheme coming in, providing 25 per cent capital subsidy for <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/brownfield+expansion\">brownfield expansion<\/a>, it has decided to put up a dry dock also. Originally, without the capital subsidy, dry dock and the entire facility was not showing commercial sense but with the 25 per cent capital subsidy coming in, it has decided to put up a dry dock of around 200 metres long, so that it can build up to <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/medium+range+tankers\">Medium Range tankers<\/a>. Thus, with the 25 per cent capital subsidy, they have expanded the project cost to \u20b9550 crore, the government official stated.<\/p>\n<p>On December 31, 2025, the board of <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/titagarh+rail+systems\">Titagarh Rail Systems<\/a> Ltd approved transfer of shipbuilding and maritime systems business to wholly-owned subsidiary Titagarh Naval Systems Ltd for \u20b9114.88 crore, effective January 1, 2026, to help the unit independently pursue growth opportunities in the shipbuilding sector under various <a id=\"20429651\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/government+initiatives\">government initiatives<\/a> and schemes for the <a id=\"20614076\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/maritime+industry\">maritime industry<\/a>, the company said in a regulatory filing.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT_M -->Titagarh Rail Systems said it will expand shipbuilding business through strategic partnerships, according to an investor presentation.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it has delivered more than 35 vessels since starting shipbuilding business in 2016, including for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast, National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), and other customers.<\/p>\n<p>The new yard will be able to build up to 15-18 vessels per year of up to 160 metres length.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT_M -->The government has earmarked \u20b98,261 crore for funding brownfield shipyard expansions under the \u20b919,989 crore Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS) approved by the Cabinet last year.<\/p>\n<p>The capital assistance for brownfield expansion will cover Indian shipyards registered under the Central or State Act that have been in operation for at least three years after registration and are seeking to expand, modernise, or enhance their production capacity and infrastructure through additional capital investments.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT -->Expansions undertaken within or adjacent to the premises of an existing shipyard, as well as those proposed at distant locations or through joint venture arrangements, will also qualify as brownfield expansions under the scheme only if such facilities are established and registered under the same legal entity and name as the base shipyard for at least one year prior to the date of application.<\/p>\n<p>The capital support seeks to incentivise investment by operational shipyards for expansion of production capacity, creation of new dry docks, slipways, fabrication facilities, cranes and other immovable infrastructure essential for large-scale commercial shipbuilding.<\/p>\n<p><!-- PROMOSLOT -->\u201cThe scheme aims to accelerate capacity addition in the short- to medium-term by enabling modernization and technological enhancement of brownfield shipyards capable of rapid implementation within 2\u20134 years,\u201d the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said.<\/p>\n<p>A brownfield shipyard that receives capital assistance under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme for expansion is required to operate for a minimum of 10 years after project completion. Hence, each brownfield shipyard must complete the project within 3\u20134 years from date of in-principle approval and continue operating the upgraded facility for at least 10 years from its
