British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump discussed the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the vitally important Middle Eastern shipping lane, in a call Sunday, according to Downing Street, APA<\/a> reports citing CNN.<\/p>\n

Tehran\u2019s almost total closure of the narrow waterway has stopped oil tankers from transiting and pushed energy prices higher worldwide.<\/p>\n

The crisis has prompted Trump to call on other leaders, including Starmer, to help safeguard security of the strait with international naval forces.<\/p>\n

In a readout of the call between the two leaders, a Downing Street spokeswoman said they \u201cdiscussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to end the disruption to global shipping, which is driving up costs worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Prime Minister also expressed his condolences for the American service personnel who have lost their lives during the conflict,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
