Alba, the world\u2019s largest aluminium smelter on one site, has initiated a controlled shutdown of three production lines as regional maritime disruptions continue to squeeze global supply chains.<\/p>\n

The company announced today that it has begun the safe closure of Reduction Lines 1, 2, and 3. Combined, these lines represent 19 per cent of Alba\u2019s total annual production capacity of 1,623,000 metric tonnes.<\/p>\n

The move is described as a strategic operational measure to preserve business continuity as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz since March 2 continues to cause a collapse in regional tanker traffic and record-high freight rates.<\/p>\n

Alba stated that the targeted action is designed to optimise its existing raw materials inventory. By concentrating inputs on its most sustainable configurations, the company aims to prioritise operational stability across its remaining units, Reduction Lines 4, 5, and 6.<\/p>\n
