(Patrick Fallon\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence (AI) has become part of everyday life for many Americans \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2025\/02\/25\/u-s-workers-are-more-worried-than-hopeful-about-future-ai-use-in-the-workplace\/\">at work<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/01\/15\/about-a-quarter-of-us-teens-have-used-chatgpt-for-schoolwork-double-the-share-in-2023\/\">at school<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/stories\/2025\/08\/ai-transforming-global-health\/\">in health care<\/a> and beyond. For more information about these surveys and their methodologies, click the links in the text.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<p class=\"is-style-has-big-number wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Americans continue to be wary of AI\u2019s impact on daily life. <\/strong>Half of U.S. adults say the increased use of AI in daily life makes them feel more concerned than excited, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2025\/09\/17\/how-americans-view-ai-and-its-impact-on-people-and-society\/\">June 2025 survey<\/a>. Just 10% say they are more excited than concerned. Another 38% say they are equally concerned and excited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More Americans are concerned today than they were when we first asked this question in 2021. Far fewer said AI will make these things better.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Americans tend to be more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2025\/09\/17\/how-americans-view-ai-and-its-impact-on-people-and-society\/#views-on-ai-playing-different-roles-in-society\">open to AI playing a role in care in the U.S. over the next 20 years, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2025\/04\/03\/public-and-expert-predictions-for-ais-next-20-years\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2025\/04\/03\/public-and-expert-predictions-for-ais-next-20-years\/\">August 2024 survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Views were more negative for the other areas we asked about. More than half of teens say they use chatbots for these reasons, and one-in-ten teens report using a chatbot to help with all or most of their schoolwork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About four-in-ten teens also say they use chatbots to summarize text or videos (42%) or to create or edit images or videos (38%). Fewer say they use chatbots for more personal reasons, such as casual conversation (16%) or emotional support or advice (12%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"is-style-has-big-number wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Most teens say using chatbots to cheat on schoolwork is common at their school.<\/strong> About six-in-ten say students at their school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2026\/02\/24\/how-teens-use-and-view-ai\/#teens-schoolwork-and-ai\">use chatbots to cheat<\/a> at least somewhat often. The latter has increased 21 percentage points since 2022, when 26% said they\u2019d heard a lot about AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, 31% of Americans said <a Smaller shares of those 50 and older say the same, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2025\/09\/17\/how-americans-view-ai-and-its-impact-on-people-and-society\/#young-adults-and-ai\">according to the June survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We see a similar pattern in the shares of employed Americans who say they\u2019ve ever used ChatGPT at work. While 38% of employed 18- to 29-year-olds say they\u2019ve done this, that drops to 30% of those 30 to 49 and 18% of those 50 and older, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/06\/25\/34-of-us-adults-have-used-chatgpt-about-double-the-share-in-2023\/sr_25-06-24_chat-gpt_3\/\">February-March 2025 survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about the increased use of AI in daily life, younger adults are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2025\/09\/17\/ai-impact-on-people-society-appendix\/ps_2024-9-15_ai-and-its-impact_a-05\/\">slightly more excited<\/a> than older adults. Still, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2025\/09\/17\/views-of-ais-impact-on-society-and-human-abilities\/#the-impact-of-ai-on-human-abilities\">majorities of younger adults are wary<\/a> of AI\u2019s impact on things like human creativity or forming meaningful relationships.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"is-style-has-big-number wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Using AI-assisted devices starts early for some kids.<\/strong> In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2025\/10\/08\/how-parents-manage-screen-time-for-kids\/\">May 2025 survey<\/a>, we asked parents of young kids about their child\u2019s use of technology. About one-in-ten told us that their 5- to 12-year-old uses AI chatbots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And 11% of parents with a kid 12 or younger said their child uses a smartwatch, which often has AI-assisted features. Most (75%) say they never get news this way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And seeing inaccurate information is fairly common on chatbots. About half of adults who get news from AI chatbots say they at least sometimes come across news there that they think is inaccurate.
