CEBU CITY \u2013 A worker died while 19 crew members were rescued after a cargo vessel sank in the sea of Naga City, southern Cebu on Wednesday night, March 11. <\/p>\n

According to the Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV), the incident happened while MV Theresa was conducting loading operations at Berth 1 of APO Cement Port. While cargoes were being loaded, the vessel tilted and subsequently sank.<\/p>\n

Responders from the Disaster Response Group and Marine Environmental Protection Emergency Response Team of the Coast Guard Substation Naga and personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed to the area.<\/p>\n

One engine crew member who was trapped inside the engine room was rescued. One cement handler died after he was struck by a mooring line that snapped and collapsed when the vessel capsized.<\/p>\n

The victim was brought to the Vicente Mendiola Center for Health Infirmary where he was declared dead.<\/p>\n

About 100 meters of oil spill boom were installed to contain potential marine pollution as monitoring for any signs of oil spill is ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
