Austin construction tech firm Icon<\/a> is opening the door to builders who want to print their own projects.<\/p>\n

The company announced the public rollout of Titan, its multi-story robotic construction system, allowing outside residential and commercial builders to reserve the 3D printing technology with a $5,000 deposit, the Austin Business Journal reported<\/a>. After nearly a decade of testing the system on its own projects, Icon co-founder and CEO Jason Ballard said in a press release that the firm is ready to let the broader market experiment with the approach.<\/p>\n

The move could push 3D construction beyond demonstration projects and into the hands of mainstream developers looking for ways to reduce costs and accelerate timelines. Titan printers will initially be available through leases while Icon gauges demand across U.S. markets, though the company plans to begin selling the systems in the first quarter of 2027 for about $899,000 apiece. That price excludes materials, architectural designs and annual software fees, according to the publication. <\/p>\n

Icon<\/a> estimates Titan can bring multi-story wall construction costs to about $20 per square foot \u2014 a figure that could appeal to builders navigating high labor costs and stubbornly elevated home prices, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

The technology builds structures using a cement-based material known as Carbon X<\/a>, which the company claims can withstand winds of up to 250 miles per hour and resist fire for nearly three hours. The printed walls also help stabilize interior temperatures and shorten construction timelines, according to the firm.<\/p>\n

Icon has spent years piloting the technology in Central Texas. Its printers have produced homes in developments such as the Canyon Club luxury community and at Community First Village, a housing development for formerly homeless residents in the Austin area, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

National homebuilder Lennar has also used Icon\u2019s earlier Vulcan printing system to develop what it billed as the country\u2019s first 3D-printed home neighborhood in Georgetown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Several developers have already reserved Titan systems, including Ghost Factory, Cole Klein Builders and Moderne Development. Early deployments are planned this year as Bjarke Ingels Group prepares to build more than 60 homes in the Austin metro area using the system, while architecture firm Overland Partners plans to use it to construct a church.<\/p>\n
