Rivian Automotive Inc. on Thursday revealed that the first edition of its new R2 mid-size electric vehicle, dubbed R2 Performance, will start at $57,990. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The company also reported lower prices for upcoming <\/span>configurations of the R2; a premium edition is scheduled to arrive in late 2026 starting at $53,990 and standard configurations with a base price of $48,490 will <\/span>follow in the first half of 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lower-priced standard R2  \u2014 previously pegged at $45,000 \u2014 isn\u2019t expected until late 2027. The Irvine automaker has said it designed the R2 to offer \u201ca more accessible price point\u201d than its R1 predecessor, which has a base price of roughly $90,000. <\/span><\/p>\n

The debut edition of the R2 has 656 horsepower, 609 lb-ft of torque and can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, according to Rivian. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cR2 embodies so many of our learnings that we have accumulated\u2014the passion and attention to detail from our team is visible everywhere,\u201d Founder and Chief Executive RJ Scaringe said in a statement.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The EV maker said it will begin deliveries of the debut R2 this spring with a limited edition \u201claunch package\u201d that includes an exclusive, exterior color option and Rivian\u2019s Autonomy+ platform for the lifetime of the vehicle. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Shares were down 3.8% to $16.01 apiece during midday trading with a market cap of nearly $20 billion (Nasdaq: RIVN). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
