New Delhi:<\/strong> Tech Mahindra on Monday moved to shut down rumours of a large workforce reduction after social media posts claimed the IT services firm could lay off tens of thousands of employees as artificial intelligence adoption grows across the technology sector.<\/p>\n

The clarification came through a stock exchange filing [pdf]<\/a>, where the company said reports circulating online about mass job cuts were incorrect. Several posts on social media platform X had claimed that as many as 30,000 employees could be affected by an alleged restructuring linked to AI adoption.<\/p>\n

Tech Mahindra denies social media claims about layoffs<\/h2>\n

In its filing, the company clearly rejected the speculation. The statement read, \u201cThe company, on its own accord, considers it necessary to clarify to the Stock Exchanges that no such proposal is under consideration and categorically denies any such market rumours.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rumours had spread quickly online over the weekend. Many posts claimed that global IT companies are replacing workers with artificial intelligence tools and suggested Tech Mahindra could follow a similar path.<\/p>\n

Tech Mahindra did not address specific posts but stated that claims of planned job cuts are false.<\/p>\n

Workforce remains steady as company focuses on productivity<\/h2>\n

According to its recent quarterly disclosures, Tech Mahindra employs close to 1.5 lakh people across the world. The company said the workforce size has stayed broadly stable in recent quarters.<\/p>\n

Management has earlier spoken about improving productivity across fixed price projects. The approach includes shifting employees from completed projects or low utilisation assignments to new work rather than reducing headcount.<\/p>\n

Tech Mahindra has also increased focus on artificial intelligence and digital transformation work. The company recently announced a collaboration with Microsoft to launch an ontology driven Agentic AI platform aimed at telecom and enterprise data modernisation.<\/p>\n
