Mangalore Refinery and \u200cPetrochemicals has declared force majeure <\/i>on all upcoming \u200bgasoline export cargoes amid the West Asian conflict that has disrupted crude oil flows from the Gulf, two traders said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The company had already \u200cawarded two to three cargoes via tenders for early March loading and is \u200cin discussion with buyers on settling those \u200csupplies, \u2060one of the traders said.<\/p>\n

The state-run \u2060refiner, which operates a 300,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Karnataka, exports about 40% of its refined fuel output.<\/p>\n

Shipping \u200bthrough the Strait \u200cof Hormuz between Iran and Oman, a conduit for about a fifth of oil consumed globally, has virtually stopped after Iranian attacks on vessels \u200cin the wake of U.S. and Israeli \u200bstrikes that interrupted energy trade flows.<\/p>\n

MRPL did not immediately respond to a \u2060Reuters <\/i>email request for comment. A source with the company, who sought anonymity, confirmed the force majeure.<\/i><\/p>\n

Indian \u200crefiners fill about 40% of their crude needs through purchases from the Middle East, in addition to sourcing from spot markets and processing domestic oil.<\/p>\n

India is scouting for alternative sources to importing crude, liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied \u200cnatural gas, a government source said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In January, MRPL \u200bsaid it was exploring purchases of Venezuelan oil after the refiner halted imports \u2060of Russian oil to comply with Western sanctions.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s crude \u2060inventories are sufficient to meet demand for about 25 days. Refiners also hold a \u200c25-day inventory of gasoil, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, the government source added. <\/p>\n
