Two months after debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show, Lego<\/a>‘s new Smart Play<\/a> technology is out in the wild. Lego’s first eight Smart Play sets landed in stores on March 1, offering a bevy of new Star Wars builds with integrated Smart technology that adds lighting, sounds, and more interactive play elements. And while that doesn’t mean you need to throw out your existing Star Wars Lego collection (that would be madness), you might want to put your eyes on these.<\/p>\n

There’s a lot going on inside the tiny Smart Play bricks that power the new technology. When we had the chance to sit down and play<\/a> with the new sets at CES, it was clear that there was some fun to be had \u2014 and that’s before they announced the Mos Eisley Cantina build that’s Smart Play-compatible. What more could you want than to play the jizz-wailing sounds of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes?<\/p>\n

While there is plenty of room to grow Smart Play beyond the Star Wars franchise, it’s hard to think of a better fit for the technology right out of the gate; it’s all laser swords and space battles. And with eight sets available for purchase at launch, you can already build yourself a pretty decent brick-based Star Wars galaxy.
