An \u201cadministrative oversight\u201d has forced the V.I. Port Authority to seek board approval for an additional $79,312 toward Island Roads Corporation\u2019s contract for the redevelopment of the Crown Bay Cargo Port. <\/span><\/p>\n

The additional amount pushes the total contract cost to $22,719,507.38. According to VIPA Procurement and Contracting Manager, Khadila Joseph, during contract negotiations in September 2025, VIPA \u201crealized that the project was underinsured, lacking sufficient general liability, auto liability and environmental liability coverage.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDue to an administrative oversight, sufficient insurance limits were not included in the project solicitation package,\u201d Ms. Joseph explained. <\/span><\/p>\n

Island Roads Corporation, she reported, stated that the additional funds \u201cwill enable the firm to acquire sufficient coverage as required by VIPA to support the project.\u201d The new total, $22.7 million, \u201cwill be consistent with the engineer of records’ estimate for the entire project,\u201d Ms. Joseph said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Preston Beyer, VIPA director of engineering, promised that action is being taken to prevent any future oversight.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re working with our contracts and procurements department to standardize all of the front-end documents and solicitation documents so that we don’t have this situation,\u201d he assured. <\/span><\/p>\n

VIPA’s governing board approved the request during their meeting on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n
