Mumbai: IndiGo<\/a>‘s cargo arm transported 11% more cargo in calendar 2025 at 438,147 tonnes, said a senior airline executive.<\/p>\n

The increase was largely fuelled by expanded belly cargo capacity on passenger flights and deployment of three dedicated freighters, Mark Sutch, head of cargo at IndiGo, told ET.

“We’re outgrowing what I feel is the pace of the market,” Sutch said, referring to the airline’s performance.<\/p>\n

IndiGo’s international freight increased 5.3% in the first nine months of FY26, while domestic freight grew 7.1%, boosting total freight by 6% from a year earlier, according to Airports Authority of India data.<\/p>\n

“The majority of our business remains domestic at 80%, with dedicated freighters and international operations contributing 10% each,” Sutch said. “Growth in Europe and Southeast Asia has been particularly strong since we started operating widebody aircraft last year.”<\/p>\n


IndiGo has expanded international cargo operations, entering Europe, starting with Manchester, besides increasing services to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and China. Domestic cargo growth was supported by higher utilisation on metro-to-metro routes and selective charters serving manufacturing and perishable goods markets.
Sutch expects Southeast Asia and Europe to contribute to the airline’s cargo business growth in 2026.”We’re seeing increased demand for perishables and electronics, and our network now covers 69 destinations capable of carrying cargo out of 96 domestic passenger destinations,” he said.<\/p>\n

Sutch pointed out that partnerships with airlines like Air France-KLM and logistics majors such as FedEx provide incremental capacity, particularly on routes where IndiGo has limited aircraft capacity.<\/p>\n

IndiGo is strategically exploring transshipment hubs to optimise its network. Sutch cited the Maldives as an example, where cargo from India is temporarily offloaded, and then loaded onto empty wide-body flights heading to Europe or the Middle East, rather than being the final destination itself.<\/p>\n
