Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced the TPD7110F, an ideal diode controller designed for automotive applications including body control modules, battery management systems, and head-up displays. The device features reverse-polarity protection and a reverse-current-blocking function to support redundant power supply configurations.<\/p>\n
The TPD7110F combines a built-in charge pump circuit with an internal capacitor and an external N-channel MOSFET to create a low-loss ideal diode configuration. Toshiba says the internal capacitor eliminates the need for external components, supporting high-density mounting in space-constrained designs.<\/p>\n

The controller uses Toshiba\u2019s PS-8 package, measuring 2.9 mm by 2.8 mm, which the company says halves the mounting area required compared to conventional MSOP-8 packages. The device achieves a typical operating current of 100 \u00b5A and standby current consumption of 2 \u00b5A.<\/p>\n
The reverse-current-blocking function detects changes in drain-source voltage across the connected MOSFET, preventing current from flowing from the load back to the battery. Toshiba says this enables designers to construct redundant power systems using multiple units. The function can be disabled in systems that require reverse current flow, such as those storing energy back into the battery.<\/p>\n
Pairing the device with back-to-back MOSFETs enables an electronically controlled on\/off load switch, according to Toshiba.<\/p>\n
