Agartala, February 25, 2026:<\/strong> Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday highlighted the state government\u2019s intensified use of advanced technology to combat cannabis cultivation and reported a notable decline in overall crime rates in 2025.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Police Week parade at AD Nagar, Agartala, Dr. Saha\u2014who also holds the Home portfolio\u2014praised the dedication of Tripura Police and emphasized the importance of modernizing law enforcement to meet evolving challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cCriminals are constantly adopting new techniques, and we must respond by embracing advanced technology. Specialized training programs are being planned to prepare our forces for emerging threats,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to official figures shared by the Chief Minister: Overall crime rate fell by 8.20% in 2025 compared to 2024; Registered cases dropped from 4,033 in 2024 to 3,698 in 2025; Property-related offences declined by 16%, while crimes against the body reduced by 14.54%; and Crimes against women decreased by 8.1%, supported by the establishment of nine all-women police stations and 24\u00d77 help desks across the state.<\/p>\n

Dr. Saha highlighted progress under the Zero Accident Programme, noting: Identification of 16 black spots and 84 accident-prone zones, deployment of interceptor vehicles in every district, and road accidents reduced by 8.82%, while fatalities dropped by 13% in 2025.<\/p>\n

Reiterating the government\u2019s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics, the Chief Minister reported: NDPS cases rose by 11.06% due to intensified enforcement; Cannabis seizures increased by 14.4%, cough syrup by 145.73%, and tablets by 26.37%; and cannabis destruction surged by 94.71%, with operations valued at Rs 1,641.89 crore.<\/p>\n

On cross-border crime, Dr. Saha said Tripura Police acts as the \u201csecond line of defence,\u201d reporting the arrest of 576 illegal infiltrators and 102 touts in 2025. He also announced plans to modernize the state\u2019s cyber police station to strengthen digital crime prevention.<\/p>\n

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in service, affirming the government\u2019s commitment to supporting law enforcement with resources, training, and technology.<\/p>\n
