Hanwha Vision is accelerating efforts to strengthen its next-generation video security capabilities through a strategic partnership with U.S.-based AI semiconductor company Ambarella.
The two companies signed a technology collaboration agreement on March 20 at The Plaza Hotel in central Seoul, launching joint development of advanced AI-powered video security solutions. The signing ceremony was attended by key executives, including Kim Dong-sun, Executive Vice President and Head of Future Vision at Hanwha Vision, and Fermi Wang, CEO of Ambarella.
At the core of the partnership is the integration of next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) technology with AI-based video analytics. By combining Hanwha Vision’s expertise in image processing with Ambarella’s strengths in AI semiconductor design, the companies aim to develop more precise and intelligent video recognition and analysis solutions. In particular, Ambarella’s AI vision processor architecture, CVflow®, is recognized for its competitiveness in video data processing, raising expectations for strong synergies.
Building on this collaboration, Hanwha Vision plans to expand the application of AI technologies beyond traditional security domains into a broader range of industries. The company aims to extend its solutions to sectors such as smart cities, retail, and industrial environments, further strengthening its presence in the global market.
Kim Dong-sun, who led the collaboration, stated, “Through our partnership with Ambarella, which possesses advanced capabilities in AI semiconductors, we will drive continuous innovation and secure technological leadership in the global market.” Fermi Wang also emphasized, “Our collaboration with Hanwha, which has deep expertise in video systems and algorithms, will serve as a key turning point for future growth.”
Industry observers note that this partnership goes beyond a simple technology alliance and aligns with Hanwha Group’s broader business restructuring strategy. The collaboration is expected to create synergies across the group’s tech and lifestyle solution businesses, with potential applications of AI video analytics in areas such as hygiene and safety management, as well as customer behavior analysis.
A Hanwha Vision official said, “Technologies secured through this partnership will first be applied across various business sites within the group and then expanded into new business models. We will continue to strengthen our technological competitiveness by expanding collaborations with global companies.”
Market analysts believe the agreement will accelerate the convergence of AI semiconductors and video security technologies, while also contributing to Hanwha Vision’s efforts to identify new growth engines and diversify its business portfolio.
