In a male-dominated industry, Brandi Baron stands out – not just for her skills under the hood, but for the way she runs Raven Auto Repair in Swift Current.
Hers is one of only three female-owned and operated shops in Saskatchewan, and her mission goes beyond fixing cars: she’s challenging stereotypes and creating a space where everyone feels welcome.
“I was raised by a very strong family,” Baron says. “If something broke, you fixed it – or it didn’t get fixed. I learned early not to be afraid of getting my hands dirty. If my vehicle needed work, I had to do it myself.”
That upbringing taught her responsibility, resilience and independence – qualities she leans on daily as a mechanic and business owner.
“Becoming a mechanic wasn’t some scary leap for me,” she explains. “It was just a natural extension of how I was raised.”
Baron knew from the start that Raven Auto Repair would look different.
“I wanted to create a space where everyone feels comfortable – not just women, but men too,” she says. “Too often, there’s this stereotype that as a woman stepping into a male-dominated shop, you’ll be taken advantage of. And for men, there’s this expectation that you’re supposed to automatically know everything about vehicles. Neither of those should be true.”
The shop offers a full range of services, from routine maintenance and diagnostics to suspension repairs, wheel alignments and a wide range of general automotive services.
Baron emphasizes clear communication: “Even if we can’t fix your vehicle immediately, I make sure you understand what’s going on, where parts are, and what the options are. You’ll never feel pressured into work you don’t need.”
Raven Auto Repair relies on a team of skilled technicians, including Welbour Espartero, whose experience spans Lexus, Toyota, Mercedes and Ford. Baron herself brings nearly 20 years in the automotive industry as a mechanic, service advisor, service manager, and now owner.
“I built this shop the way I was raised – with integrity,” she says. “Honesty comes first. We take the time to show and educate our customers about repairs, and we never pressure anyone into
work they don’t need. No one should ever feel intimidated to ask questions about their own vehicle.”
Raven Auto Repair is located at 620 Knight Crescent, Swift Current. It is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Customers can stop by the shop, call or text (306) 625 2034, or connect via Facebook and Instagram. More information about their services can be found on their website.
