At approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Nuckolls County Emergency dispatch center received calls reporting a suspicious man walking around on a property located on Road C and 4.5 miles east of Superior. The caller reported the man was also seen entering one of the outbuildings located on the property. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the area.
The first responding deputy located a silver car, slightly off the road, close to the property. After running the plate, it was learned the vehicle had been stolen in Trenton, Missouri.
An eye witness told the responding deputies he saw the man walk to a creek located nearby and a manhunt immediately ensued. At approximately 9:45 a.m. deputies located a man matching the description. He was found standing outside the building carrying an axe. When approached, the suspect did not resist and was quickly taken into custody.
The subject, Larry Conrad, was arraigned Monday in Nuckolls County Court on burglary, felony theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Conrad, 53, was previously reported by Colorado authorities as a missing person with welfare concerns. His vehicle, a late model Jeep, was located Feb. 7 in Manhattan, Kansas. At the time of his arrest Sunday, Buffalo County and Kearney had outstanding warrants on him.
