EXIM Bank promotes tech-driven agriculture to attract  youth

The Chief Executive of Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, has called for a renewed focus on agriculture as a promising career path for young people, highlighting technology as a major driver of change in the sector.

Speaking at the launch of the Agrotech Fair 2026 in Accra on Tuesday, March 17, he explained that the initiative aims to shift youth interest away from limited white-collar job opportunities toward the broader agricultural value chain.

He observed that many graduates continue to rely heavily on formal sector employment, a situation he described as unsustainable given rising unemployment and changing economic conditions.

Mr. Mensah stressed that integrating technology into agriculture is transforming the industry, making it more appealing to younger generations. He noted that modern farming now involves innovation, data analysis, mechanisation, logistics, and entrepreneurship—areas that align with the skills and interests of today’s youth.

According to him, agricultural technology improves productivity, reduces post-harvest losses, enhances product quality, and increases incomes. It also supports value addition and helps exporters meet international standards.

The Agrotech Fair, which runs until March 19, is expected to bring together key stakeholders, encourage investment, promote innovation, and strengthen connections across Ghana’s agricultural sector.
