Louisiana Tech ended Missouri State’s Cinderella bid on Friday, holding off the No. 9 seed down the stretch for a 69-66 semifinal victory. Kennesaw State put together a big second half on Friday to knock out No. 2 seed Sam Houston 79-73. Amir Taylor went for 23 points, RJ Johnson finished with 20 points and six assists, and Frankquon Sherman notched 17 points and seven boards. The Owls took the lead for good on Trey Simpson’s 3-pointer with 3:24 left and held off the Bearkats down the stretch.
The Bulldogs and Owls split homecourt wins during the regular season, with Louisiana Tech winning 82-76 on Jan. 23 and Kennesaw State holding serve 58-55 on Feb. 21. Dudley leads the Bulldogs with an average of 14.0 points per game, with Bates netting 12.2 points and 5.9 assists per game and Kaden Cooper snaring 7.6 rebounds a night. Johnson averages 14.4 points for the Owls, while Braedan Lue scores 11.5 points per game and Sherman books 10.3 points and 8.6 boards per outing.
