HII announces immediate 18% or higher base-wage increase for Ingalls Shipbuilding

Union-represented shipbuilders at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division are set to receive an immediate 18% or higher base-wage increase — the largest single wage increase in the division’s history — according to a company announcement today.

All five collective bargaining units at Ingalls Shipbuilding ratified new agreements, which will extend the contract through March 8, 2031. This agreement will provide a wage growth of 35% to 47% through 2031 — a move leadership is betting on to improve recruitment and attrition.

“This agreement strengthens our partnership with our represented shipbuilders and affirms our commitment to providing competitive wages and stability for our workforce,” Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Blanchette said in a statement. “The dedication and expertise of our Ingalls shipbuilders are essential to meeting the U.S. Navy’s growing demand for more ships, and together we will continue advancing our mission to build the most capable ships that protect and serve our nation’s warfighters.”

In a February call with investors, HII CEO Chris Kastner said the company has experienced positive workforce growth, adding HII was engaged “almost daily” to come to a collective bargaining agreement.
